ABOUT RAF

What a RAF file is,
and why X-Trans is different.

RAF is Fujifilm's own container with a JPEG right at the front, followed by the sensor data. The sensor pattern is the interesting part.

A JPEG at the front of the file
A RAF starts with a header that points at a full JPEG the camera rendered, with the Film Simulation applied, then the sensor data. This tool reads that pointer and shows the preview in under a second. On most bodies it is a full or near full size render.

X-Trans is a 6 by 6 pattern, not a Bayer grid
X-Trans sensors use a 6 by 6 color layout instead of the 2 by 2 Bayer grid. A Bayer demosaic applied to X-Trans gives mush. LibRaw carries a dedicated X-Trans interpolation, and that is what develops your file here.

GFX and the X-A line are Bayer
The GFX medium format bodies and the X-A and X-T100 series use conventional Bayer sensors. They open and develop with the standard path. Compressed (lossless) and uncompressed RAF both decode.

Film Simulations live in the preview, not the develop
Classic Chrome, Velvia, Acros: those are camera renders and they are in the embedded JPEG. A develop from the sensor data is neutral. If you want the film look in a JPG, the camera preview path is the honest way to get it.

It shows you what the camera already made
Every RAW holds a JPEG your camera wrote at capture. The tool finds it in the file and shows it in under a second, so a card of 40 frames is browsable before you have finished reading this sentence.

It develops the real thing when you ask
Full develop reads the sensor data with LibRaw: demosaic, camera white balance, color matrix, full size. A neutral, honest render with room to push exposure. Two to ten seconds a file depending on megapixels.

It never leaves your machine
The decoder is WebAssembly running in your browser. Files go from your disk into memory and back out as JPGs. No server touches them, which is also why it keeps working with the wifi off.

It writes a JPG that still tells its story
Camera, lens, shutter, aperture, ISO and capture date go into the JPG so Lightroom and your gallery still read them. GPS is never copied. Untick one box for a file with no metadata at all.

Speed depends on megapixels and your machine. The camera preview of a 24 megapixel file shows in well under a second; a full develop takes a few seconds on a recent laptop. A phone works, a laptop is more comfortable.

Why do other converters make my Fuji files look soft?
They apply a Bayer demosaic to an X-Trans sensor. The develop here uses LibRaw's X-Trans interpolation, which is built for the 6 by 6 pattern.
Can I get a JPG with my Film Simulation?
Yes, through the camera preview path, because the preview is the camera's render with the simulation applied. The develop is neutral by design.
Does it read compressed RAF?
Yes. Fujifilm's lossless compressed RAF from the X-T2 onward decodes, along with uncompressed files from every body.
Does it read GFX 100 files?
Yes. GFX files are Bayer and large; a 100 megapixel develop takes a while and needs a machine with memory to spare. The camera preview is instant.
Are my RAW files uploaded?
No. The converter runs entirely inside your browser. Files never leave your device, Kepla never sees them, and nothing persists after you close the tab. Turn the wifi off after the page loads and it keeps working.
How does the develop compare to Lightroom?
It is an honest, neutral render with the camera white balance and color matrix applied, close to a RAW editor at default settings before any profile or preset. It is not an edit. It is the fastest way to a clean full size JPG without installing anything.
What does "Keep camera info" do?
Writes camera, lens, exposure settings and capture date into the JPG so the file still tells its story. GPS is never copied. Untick it for a JPG with no metadata at all.
